The little town of Tobermory sits astride Tobermory Bay. In 1588 the Spanish galleon "Florida" was sunk here after having been blown up by a Scottish hostage. A cannon recovered from the wreck is preserved in Inveraray Castle. Many unsuccessful attempts have been made to recover the galleon's reputed treasure.
