The Royal Burgh of Inveraray lies on Loch Fyne, surrounded by some of the loveliest woodlands and gardens in Scotland. The Marquis of Montrose burned the original village of Inveraray in 1644. The new town and castle, seat of the Dukes of Argyll, were built between 1746 and 1780.
