The village of Glenfinnan, lying between Fort William and Mallaig on the "Road to the Isles", stands at the head of Loch Shiel. It was here in 1745 that the Scottish clans rallied in support of Bonnie Prince Charlie, the event having been commemorated in 1815 by the construction of a round tower surmounted by a kilted Highlander. This is seen in the middle distance at the head of the loch. |
