This little loch is known, quite poetically, as Lochan an Tarbh-Uisge which translates as "The Little Loch of the Water-Bull", adjoins an area in which a stone-age axe factory was found.  Products of this ancient industry have been found many hundreds of miles away in England.  The Tarmachan Mountains lie to the northeast of the Perthshire village of Killin.
