Ben Ledi - Brocken Spectre

Ben Ledi - Brocken Spectre

This mountain is the highest of the Trossachs, and can really be considered the gateway to the Highlands, lying to the West of Callander.  Queen Victoria is reputed to have ascended this mountain on horseback.  This picture depicts the Brocken Spectre, a rare phenomenon named after a peak in the Harz mountains in Germany.  In this photograph, the silhouette of the climber is projected onto a cloud bank to the East.  Few photographs exist of this unusual occurrence. Ben Ledi means "Mountain of the Gentle Slope".
