This photograph presents a view of the Coigach Mountains from Drumrunie Loch, Ross-Shire.  The area is sparsely populated, due mainly to the ravages of the Highland Clearances.  In the opinion of the landlord class, the inhabitants of such areas "were altogether unable to occupy beneficially the large extent of hill pasture attached to their little allotments of land".
