River Deveron at Banff

River Deveron

The estuary of the River Deveron is seen in this photograph at the point where it enters the Moray Firth, separating the towns of Banff and MacDuff.  Nearby stands Duff House, built by William Adam around 1735 and donated by the Duke of Fife to the town.  James MacPherson, a famous Highland freebooter, was hanged near this spot, and is reputed to have played the fiddle prior to his appointment with the gallows.
