Arbroath Beach and Harbour

Arbroath Beach

The bustling resort and fishing port of Arbroath, universally famed for its smoked haddock, lies to the north of the Firth of Tay.  Scotland's Declaration of Independence was signed here by Robert the Bruce at nearby Arbroath Abbey in 1320.  In 1951 the Stone of Destiny was found here after having been "removed" from Westminster Abbey.  The town's original name "Aberbrothock" was contracted to its modern form, the River Brothock flowing through the town to meet the North Sea.
