Traditional wooden fishing boats are still built in Girvan, whose busy harbour is shown in this photograph.  The extinct volcano peak of Ailsa Craig lies ten miles to the west in the Firth of Clyde.  Girvan is still a popular resort with Glaswegians, and is home to an active fishing fleet.
