King Robert the Bruce, and many other Scottish kings, are buried in Dunfermline. James I was born here in 1394, and Charles I in 1600. The Benedictine Abbey itself was founded in the Eleventh Century by Margaret, wife of Malcolm Canmore. There is a 100 foot high square tower with the words "King Robert the Bruce" carved around it.
