The father of Robert Burns, Scotland's National Bard, lies buried in the local graveyard at Alloway. Brig o' Doon was immortalised in Burns' "Tam o' Shanter", when Tam galloped across the bridge to escape the pursuing witches. The bridge possibly dates from the 13th century, being of a simple arch construction. |
