Wallace Monument, Stirling

William Wallace recaptured Stirling from the English in 1297 at the Battle of Stirling Bridge.  This monument was built on the Abbey Craig in 1869 to commemorate this, and preserves a huge two-handed sword reputed to have belonged to the Patriot, although historians have debated the veracity of this, since this type of sword was not used until the 15th century.
