Scone Palace - the Stone of Destiny

The Mote Hill of Scone has been known since the 8th century when Kenneth MacAlpine brought the Stone of Destiny here.  The Scottish Stone of Destiny is identified with Jacob's Pillow at Bethel, and later with the Irish Stone of Destiny at Tara.  All of the early kings of Scotland were crowned here but the Abbey and Palace were destroyed by a mob from nearby Perth in 1559.  After the Palace was rebuilt in the 16th century, subsequent kings were crowned until 1651.  This photograph shows the little chapel of Mote Hill and a copy of the original Stone of Destiny.
