Stirling Castle

Stirling Castle overlooks the field of Bannockburn, where the English were defeated by the Scots under King Robert the Bruce in 1314.  The castle later became a royal residence and Mary, Queen of Scots, spent several years here.  The castle has been used for years as a military barracks, the structure having been frequently rebuilt, the oldest parts dating back to the 15th century.
