MacLellan's Castle

MacLellan's Castle

MacLellan’s Castle dominates the centre of the Galloway town of Kirkcudbright, built in 1582 by Sir Thomas MacLellan of Bombie, then the Provost of the town. The castle is basically an L-shaped tower house, much modified. The three panels above the main door carry the arms of the MacLellan and Maxwell families and it is believed that the now illegible upper panel bore the Royal Arms of Scotland.
