Loch Leven Castle stands impressively on an island in Loch Leven, Kinross.  It dates from early 15th century, although records indicate that there had been a royal residence there since 1257.  Mary, Queen of Scots, was imprisoned here in June 1567 until May of 1568, when she escaped.  The ghost of Mary reputedly still haunts the castle.
