Hopetoun House, near South Queensferry on the Firth of Forth, one of the stateliest mansions in Scotland, dates from the 18th century, and is the work of William Adam and his sons. It is the home of the Marquess of Linlithgow and houses a fine collection of paintings. A museum recounts the life of Hopetoun House across the years, and an exhibition in the stables is entitled "Horse and Man in Lowland Scotland". |
