Lying between Aberdeen and Banff, and beautifully situated on a mound above the River Ythan, Fyvie Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland, dates from the 13th century, when it was used as a hunting lodge. It was occupied by Edward l of England in 1296. Each of the four old turretted towers bears the name of its respective builder - Meldrum, Preston, Gordon and Seaton. The oldest part of the existing Fyvie Castle dates from the 15th century and most of the south part from 15th and 16th centuries. |
