Duffus Castle, three miles north-west of Elgin, dates from the 14th century, and is the finest example of a motte and bailey structure in the north of Scotland, once the seat of the de Moravia family (Murray). It was previously surmounted by a fine stone tower whose mount slipped under its weight as seen in this photograph. |
