Castle Stalker

Standing on an islet in Loch Laich, an inlet of Loch Linnhe, this particularly picturesque castle presents a striking appearance.  The rectangular keep dates from the 16th century, with some remodelling a century later.  It was once the home of the Stewarts of Appin, built as a hunting lodge to entertain King James IV, whose arms are displayed above the entrance.  Roofless for many years, restoration was begun in 1965 by its current owners.  The hills of Morvern present a dramatic background.
