Scotland's Declaration of Independence was signed here by King Robert the Bruce in 1320.  The Abbey was founded by King William the Lion in 1176, who lies buried before the high altar.  This photograph shows the circular window known as the "O of Arbroath", which was lit in ancient times for the benefit of mariners.  The Stone of Destiny was discovered here in 1951, after its "removal" from Westminster Abbey.
