Ackergill Tower

Ackergill Tower lies about three miles north of Wick, overlooking Sinclair's Bay, in the county of Caithness.  It was built in the late 15th century, is five storeys high, erected for the Keiths of Inverugie, passing to the Oliphants and subsequently to the Dunbars of Hempriggs.  The main alterations to the tower took place in 1851 by David Bryce.  Girnigoe Castle, belonging to the Sinclair family,  lies one mile to the east on Noss Head.
