Aberdour Castle

Aberdour Castle, on the north shore of the River Forth, probably dates from the 12th century, although there have been various additions over its history.  The oldest section, a huge keep, collapsed in 1844, destroying much of the adjoining interior.  All that survives today is the eastern part of what must have been an extensive and splendid castle.  The castle was last inhabited in 1791, and thereafter neglected.  It is now in the care of Historic Scotland.
