This view of the three peaks of the Eildon Hills was particularly close to the heart of Sir Walter Scott, who lies buried in nearby Dryburgh Abbey. It is said that the horses pulling Sir Walter Scott's hearse stopped at this point on the novelist's final journey, since they had been so used to doing so when Scott was alive. In the middle distance lies the Roman settlement of Trimontium (The Three Mountains). |
