Selkirk - the Scott Monument

Scott Monument, Selkirk

Sir Walter Scott was Sheriff of Selkirk from 1799 until 1832.  Near this spot in the High Street a statue of Mungo Park, the famous missionary and explorer, also stands.  The town has many associations with Sir Walter Scott.  Robert Burns also lodged at the former Forest Inn.  The local museum houses a number of interesting items, including a flag reputedly captured at the Battle of Flodden.  There are also relics of James Hogg "the Ettrick Shepherd".

A print of this costs $25 (£16)
