The busy Galloway town of Newton Stewart stands on the edge of the Kirroughtree Forest, part of the Glen Trool Forest Park.  Visitors to the town can watch mohair rugs and scarves being produced.  There is a busy livestock market in the town and a handsome granite bridge which joins Newton Stewart with its neighbouring town of Minnigaff.
