The little Dumfries and Galloway village of New Abbey contains a number of interesting buildings. Sweetheart Abbey, built in 1273 by Devorgilla, stands about half a mile from the New Abbey Corn Mill. This is a particularly attractive building, and is surmounted by a weather vane in the shape of a salmon. New Abbey is an excellent centre for exploring the Solway Firth and the Galloway hinterland. |
