Kelso Bridge

Kelso Bridge

This "modern" bridge over the River Tweed at Kelso was built by John Rennie in 1803 to replace an earlier bridge, destroyed by floods in 1797.  Rennie also built the Old Waterloo Bridge in London in 1811.  Two lamp-posts  were taken from Old Waterloo Bridge at its demolition in 1934, and erected on Kelso Bridge.
