Jedburgh was originally known as "Geddewrd" and also variously as "Jeddart" and "Jethart". Robert Burns once lodged here and Mary, Queen of Scots' House, in a beautiful state of preservation, is now a museum in the town. Jedburgh's castle, dated from the 12th century, was ordered to be destroyed in 1409, since it was more often used by the English. It was once a residence of Scottish kings. |
