Hawick

Hawick

This large Border town, world famous for its knitwear production, stands at the confluence of the Slitrig Water and the River Teviot.  The town hosts a large sheep market, having been a woollen manufacturing centre since the 8th century.  Hawick has a turbulent history of Border skirmishes and was almost completely burned down in 1570.
